Some Biscuits and Bisleri for Eternity....

The last time I met Abbu properly was in Jan 2006. He was off to Vellore for his check-up and I escorted him to Howrah to help him board the Coromandel Express.. As we waited on the platform for the station to come we had one of those father-son conversations that make you feel that you want to dump everything in the world and just be close to your parents and be with them forever..(But life usually does not work out that way) ..we talked about my childhood and my future and..about Saqib and Afroz and Samira (my bro & sis & wife)..about life and values and dreams...about Ammi ...for once I wanted the train to be really late so that the conversation could go on forever....But soon the train chugged in and I helped him board..got him settled comfortably...And so soon it was time to say good bye..Just before the train was about to pull away Abbu said "Get me some Biscuits and water. You never know how the journey will turn out!!". I rushed to the nearest stall and packed in different types of biscuits that he liked in a bundled along with a couple of Bisleris and passed it through the window of the moving train. As the train picked momentum we waved at each other over the distance that was expanding between us. Little did I know that the distance would stretch to eternity....

Abbu never really talked to me again....

But at times in Vellore his eyes would say a world of things....fragments of conversations that were left unsaid...

And now those eyes too are closed forever....
